QUASAR THRUST 2

QUANTUM SECURITY TESTING AND EVALUATION

Motivation and Objectives

Testing, Evaluation and Certification of Quantum Communication and QKD systems play a crucial role in building trust in this technology, thereby enabling its acceptance among governmental entities, industrial manufacturers, operators, and end-users.

There are still insufficient capabilities and know-how (up- and downstream) for assessment of quantum system developments in Singapore and worldwide as well as for the realization of related tools, and services.

QUASAR-CREATE T2 builds upon a strong existing relationship between the partners Fraunhofer, NTU and NUS and provides an internationally unique R&D opportunity in Quantum Security Testing and Evaluation and aims to complement NQSN+ and NiCE.

QUASAR-CREATE Thrust 2 investigates QKD Security Testing and Evaluation from combined theoretical and practical perspective, setting benchmarks for testing and verifing quantum-safe communications. This work will set the way for certificable QKD systems in Singapore and beyond.

QUASAR-CREATE T2 is a research programme funded as NRF CREATE partner programme hosted by Fraunhofer Singapore Cerntre FSR@NTU in collaboraiton with Fraunhofer, NTU and NUS. Launched in September 2025 and running until mid-2028, the programme will advance research on Quantum Security Testing and Evaluation, developing methodologies and testing solutions and enable quantum-safe communication networks for the future.

From Upstream Research to Industry Impacts

Upstream + Downstream Research

Research of quantum communication security evaluation methods and vulnerabilities, countermeasures in a joint theoretical-practical model.

Translational Research and Development

Translation to practical evaluation processes, tools and assessment of quantum communication systems.

Industry Impact and Capability Development

Development of a service portfolio for testing and evaluation, capability building, industry partnerships and outreach.

Overview of the Research Areas

QUASAR-CREATE Thrust 2 investigates QKD Security Testing and Evaluation from combined theoretical and practical perspective, setting benchmarks for testing and verifing quantum-safe communications. This work will set the way for certificable QKD systems in Singapore and beyond.

Theoretical Security vs Practical Security is a major problem in current state of the art quantum communication and quantum cryptography and affect professional evaluation and certification. Security proofs of QKD fail to fail graciously when assumptions are violated.
