Virtual SARS-CoV-2

The effects of COVID-19 has made home offices a new normal and the in-house project Virtual SARS-CoV-2 was launched at Fraunhofer Singapore.


Based on the findings of the scientific community, we created a digital representation of SARS-CoV-2 through 3D modeling technology enabling the exploration of the anatomy with standard computers at the convenience of home. The experience can be elevated to an immersive VR scenario with additional VR equipment readily available in the market.

Adapting to the new normal, these visual environments can support scientists in understanding and exploring the intricacies of the virus's structure that would not be possible without a 3D digital representation. The interactive visual representation of SARS-CoV-2 can also be deployed to aid in educating the public and better explain complex phenomena. It is our hope that the knowledge will raise public awareness and motivate appropriate behaviour such as safe distancing.
